Curriculum

Old Trail School’s mathematics curriculum is designed to ensure that all students have an opportunity to become mathematically literate, logical and conceptual thinkers, and informed citizens capable of using mathematics to understand issues in a changing technological society.  Beginning in preschool and continuing through eighth grade, students are provided access to a full range of mathematical topics; algebra, probability, geometry, measurement, numeration, patterns, and operations.  Mathematics also includes problem solving, reasoning, communicating and applying mathematics to other curricular areas. Students learn to formulate and solve problems using a variety of strategies, verify and interpret results, and generalize solutions.

Students develop confidence in their ability to use mathematics in real life applications as well as to appreciate its elegance. In order for our students to become mathematically powerful, the curriculum and instruction is meaningful, relevant, coherent and engaging.  Our students are challenged by rigorous and relevant mathematics instruction with the focus on understanding mathematical concepts.
