physical education

Old Trail School’s Physical Education department offers a comprehensive physical education and swimming curriculum. The students are given the opportunity to fully develop their mental, physical, and social capabilities by participating in a wide range of activities that are taught with diverse teaching methods in a developmentally appropriate sequence. The students gain an appreciation for lifelong fitness and physical activity by being engaged in physical education and swimming on a regular basis.

Classes are designed to maximize participation and to give each student optimum learning experiences through individual skill practice and sequential skill development, small-sided games, group problem solving, and interscholastic competition. Equal emphasis is placed on sportsmanship and cooperation along with discovering a healthy respect for peers during all of the physical education classes. In addition, the physical education curriculum helps students to improve their self-confidence based on their mastery of skills and concepts in physical activity. Students learn to become more confident, assertive, and independent participants.
