Visual Arts
Curriculum

Old Trail School’s visual arts department provides a comprehensive program of artistic, creative, and academic development. We provide students with the fundamental skills, knowledge, and experiences essential to their development as visual artists. Our balanced and sequential art education program fosters the students’ perception of both their real and imagined worlds. Through structured course work which includes knowledge of artists, art principles, and guided critique, the students are exposed to cultures around the world. The art program enables each student to develop positive attitudes toward self, others, and the environment through creative experiences. Problem solving and creative learning encourage students to relate visual knowledge to other disciplines and to respond with originality, appreciation, and flexibility. The use and application of skills, processes, and media encourage self-expression and creative growth. The art program embeds knowledge, aesthetic judgments, skills, and abilities in our students’ academic way of thinking.
