Old Trail School was “Seeing Red” as the entire school community observed a week of awareness and reflection about cancer. This campaign was part of a school-wide service learning project to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).
The Seeing Red theme is based on the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's "relentless red" wristbands. Seeing Red also reflects the idea of "getting mad" about cancer and being determined to find a cure. The weekly all-school assembly featured an Old Trail School family that battled against their daughter’s childhood leukemia and celebrates her now cancer-free teen years.
Students sold red t-shirts and red wristbands to raise awareness and funds for the LLS. Students and teachers also participated in a "red" door decorating contest. Teachers related their red doors in some way to a short lesson based on "red”. Door concepts included: books students have “read,” redcoats, red hair, fire safety, bull fights and much more. Special red food items were also served at lunch that week.
A donation of more than $2,000 will be made in the School’s name to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Great job!
