Philosophy
Old Trail School's Core Values of Respect, Goodness, Responsibility and Service are the base upon which we build our curriculum and expectations. The Primary School keeps these values in mind as we educate the whole child. Our structured yet stimulating curriculum connects with the intellectual, emotional, social, physical and spiritual needs of our children.
The Primary School engages children in learning through a developmentally appropriate core curriculum. Our program is rich in opportunities to develop analytical skills, critical thinking and creativity.
Teachers offer a variety of authentic learning opportunities that are interdisciplinary in nature. They create a child-centered environment that encourages working with others in small groups, stimulating students’ academic interests and supporting children as they develop independence and resilience. Our curriculum encompasses language arts, mathematics, technology, science, social studies, visual and performing arts, Spanish and physical education.
Children are valued, nurtured and challenged both academically and personally through individualized opportunities that stimulate growth. They are thoughtfully transitioned from grade to grade, building upon their skills as academic, interpersonal and organizational expectations are increased. Students are carefully assessed as we look at the important differences among children to distinguish relative strengths and weaknesses. This knowledge helps us guide a child’s individual learning
