“Even though she is new to our school, Caroline has made a wonderful adjustment,” said a colleague. “The children love her and she is a fantastic teacher!”
Ms. Depew is no stranger to independent schools, having previously taught at The Gateway School and The Windward School in New York, and Greenwich Country Day School in Connecticut. She also holds a Masters of Education in Early Childhood from Teachers College at Columbia University. Ms. Depew, who is a native of Hudson and a graduate of Western Reserve Academy, felt an instant connection to Old Trail when she interviewed last year.
“I was attracted to OTS because of the school’s powerful commitment to building lasting relationships with its students and to using natural spaces to ignite learning,” she said. “Growing up in the area, there was also a sense of ‘coming home’ when I walked onto the campus.”
Ms. Depew says becoming a teacher has always been a goal of hers and recalls playing teacher as a child with her dolls and imaginary friends. Her favorite part about teaching first graders is “watching their excitement for learning, their creativity, and their curiosity to explore the world around them. Oh, and also the dance parties!”
We look forward to more families getting to know Ms. Depew and the positive outlook and creative strategies she brings to her classroom each day. Until then, did you know that Ms. Depew was a student-athlete at Bates College in Maine where she was an All-American in swimming? Or that she has completed three marathons, including the New York City Marathon twice?
Welcome to the OTS community, Ms. Depew! We are fortunate to have you!
