The intellectual curiosity cultivated at Old Trail School propelled Tom Eaton III into a career that took him around the globe. Now that he’s back in Akron, Tom is thrilled to give his daughter, Anna ’28, the same education that played such a formative role in his life.
This past year has been a collection of moments unlike any other in Old Trail School’s 100-year history. These moments would challenge our school and, ultimately, strengthen our relationships and our commitment to providing the best learning experience for students.
During an end-of-year meeting on Zoom with Old Trail School faculty and staff last June, Middle School Spanish teacher Marival Quesada was named the 2019-20 recipient of the Catherine Silver McNamara Award.
Despite heavy rain that threatened the event all day, the skies cleared up just before the evening's pageantries began and the sun shone brightly down on our guests of honor and their families.
Although teaching and learning dominate what happens each day at Old Trail, there is also so much more that happens in-between. To help students feel more socially connected, we developed an online series called Community Fridays during the school closure in 2020.
Despite challenges brought on by the pandemic and a harsh winter season, construction on the revolutionary Merryweather Outdoor Classroom, which spanned several months, was completed last summer.
Our completely reimagined ECP and Primary playgrounds and on-campus organic Learning Farm underwent significant renovations in 2020.
As Director of the Wick Poetry Center at Kent State University and an OTS parent, I was thrilled to have this opportunity to help Old Trail commemorate its 100-year history through the memorable language and leaping thought of poetry.
