Middle School Students Return from Unforgettable Experience in Italy

Old Trail education goes far beyond the classroom. This summer's destination? Italy!

Understanding others and cultivating an interest in exploring unique cultures and ecosystems worldwide are essential elements of our students' experience at Old Trail. This year, 14 OTS middle school students and three faculty members embarked on a 12-day adventure in Italy through our Center for Global Understanding.

In their home base of Abruzzo, students experienced authentic cultural immersion—practicing Italian, playing soccer with locals, exploring national parks, and savoring gelato. This immersive experience allowed them to connect with the local community, make homemade pasta, learn about Italian traditions, and appreciate the natural beauty of the region.

The trip concluded with a two-day exploration of the ancient streets of Rome! Students marveled at historic landmarks, like the Coliseum and Parthenon, gaining a deeper understanding of Italy's rich history and cultural heritage.

Mr. Korvne, one of the trip chaperones, summed up the experience best: "What a gift it is to build your life at Old Trail School—where you are part of a small, deeply rooted community where everyone knows you and cares, and at the same time, you are encouraged to be open to grand ambitions of where to live, what you might do with your life."

Trips like these are more than just travel; they are opportunities for students to broaden their horizons, foster a global mindset, and build lasting memories. At Old Trail, we believe in nurturing well-rounded individuals who are prepared to navigate and contribute to the world with curiosity and compassion.

Look out for many more details and photos from the Italy experience in the next Old Trail Magazine this fall!
