At Old Trail School, the changing of seasons brings a fresh opportunity for discovery and creativity—and no one embraces it quite like our youngest learners in Preschool 2. As autumn arrives in Northeast Ohio, our campus transforms with brilliant colors, frosty mornings, and endless treasures for curious minds.
Preschool 2 students, in particular, have been captivated by the seasonal shift. From the ever-changing colors of the trees surrounding their playground to the first frost painting the grass and mulch white, these young explorers have been actively observing and delighting in the natural world around them. Inspired by Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert, a beloved children’s book that encourages creativity with natural elements, our preschoolers set off on an adventure to collect colorful leaves, sweet gum fruit, acorns, and other fall findings from around campus.
Their discoveries became the foundation for unique “Leaf Man” creations, each crafted with care and imagination. Through this hands-on project, students not only expressed themselves artistically but also learned to appreciate the beauty and diversity of the natural world, right here on Old Trail School’s grounds.
As they shared their leaf art, the students celebrated each other's work and the joy that comes with exploring the wonders of fall. This activity is a reminder of Old Trail's commitment to fostering a deeper learning experience where children can connect closely with the environment, sparking a love for nature and creativity that will carry them far.
