In Remembrance of Peter G. Wilson

Beloved by all who knew him, former head of school Peter G. Wilson passed away on September 3, 2021, the date of his 85th birthday.

His last moments were with his family and of course, his best friend and wife, Lois. Peter leaves behind an incredible legacy built on kindness, integrity and dedication to his love of education. The Old Trail community owes a debt of gratitude to Peter for his leadership and commitment to our school.

Peter will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His obituary can be viewed here. If you have a special remembrance, tribute, story or photo to share about Peter, we ask that you use this online form. Submissions will be shared with the Wilson family.

A celebration of Peter’s life will be held at Old Trail School on Saturday, October 9, from 11 a.m. to Noon. A reception will follow.

Peter first arrived at Old Trail School in 1981 to begin his tenure as headmaster. During his time, he stabilized the school – increasing enrollment from 275 students to 530; oversaw the construction of the Meyo Library and renovations of Alderfelder and Burton D. Morgan halls; continued to refine the OTS curriculum; and built a lasting endowment that our community continues to benefit from today.

In all, during the 19 years in which he served Old Trail, Peter provided the steady leadership and vision the school needed to stay relevant and viable as it grew to new heights and brought joy to the thousands of students who walked its halls. Put simply, without Peter’s dedication, we would not be the school we are today.

While the Old Trail community mourns this tremendous loss and offers deepest condolences to Lois and the entire Wilson family, we know Peter’s indelible spirit lives on in each of us and in every Old Trail student — past, current and future.
