Building Community: OTS Partners with Habitat for Humanity

Old Trail School faculty and staff carried their commitment to belonging and dignity into the wider community through a service project with Habitat for Humanity of Summit County on August 19. Together, they spent the afternoon at the organization’s ReStore location, rolling up their sleeves to support families in need of safe, affordable housing.

Throughout the day, our team worked side by side assembling furniture, restocking first aid kits, organizing donations, and brightening the facility’s outdoor spaces by repainting curbs and parking lot lines, and clearing away weeds and debris. Each task was a reminder of how small acts of service can add up to meaningful impact.

“In giving our time and energy, we experienced the same truth we hope to instill in our students: that when we see and serve others with dignity, we not only strengthen our community but also deepen our own connections to one another,” said Head of School Sarah Johnston.

This day of service reflected the heart of Old Trail’s mission—learning, growing, and leading with empathy. By working together outside of our classrooms, we strengthened our bonds as colleagues while modeling for students the importance of giving back. See photos
