Community Spirit Soars at 2nd Annual Cuyahoga Valley 5K and Family Fun Run

Hundreds of runners from Northeast Ohio and several states, both near and far, joined us for the 2nd Annual Cuyahoga Valley 5K and Family Fun Run at Old Trail School in June. Participants included current and past Old Trail families, alumni, faculty, staff, and newcomers to OTS.

Among the standout performers were recent graduates James Johnston '23 and Sarah Schueler '22, who showcased their running prowess in the individual 5K categories. James secured second place in the men's division, crossing the finish line with an impressive time of 18:17. Meanwhile, Sarah achieved third place in the women's division, completing her run in 23:04. Sarah's consistency was notable, marking her second consecutive top-three finish after placing second last year with a time of 25:52.

This year's event saw significant improvements in overall race times. Michael Downey claimed the top spot in the men's division with a swift time of 17:10, shaving off nearly two minutes from the previous year's winning time. Similarly, Abril Amburgy dominated the women's category, finishing in 20:39, nearly two minutes faster than the 2023 champion.

Their commitment helped make this community-driven event a memorable and enjoyable experience for all participants.

Looking ahead, organizers are already planning for next year's race in June, anticipating another opportunity for the community to come together, celebrate fitness, and continue building lasting memories at Old Trail School.
