Barb DiTirro Wins Top Faculty Honor for 2023-24

Grade 2 teacher Barb DiTirro was named the 2023-2024 recipient of the Catherine Silver McNamara Award in an intimate ceremony held in front of faculty, staff and close family at Merryweather Outdoor Classroom on May 16.

With over three decades of experience as an educator, Mrs. DiTirro has dedicated 24 years of her professional life to nurturing first and second-grade students at Old Trail School. Her commitment to the school and her students has made her a beloved figure in the OTS community.

Sarah Johnston, OTS Head of School, praised Mrs. DiTirro’s contributions: "Barb embodies reliability—offering unwavering support, invaluable guidance, and innovative ideas. With a wealth of experience, she maintains a fresh perspective, ensuring her contributions remain dynamic. Barb's teaching philosophy revolves around her students' needs, earning admiration from both children and parents alike. The unparalleled trust she has earned from colleagues, students, and families speaks volumes about her character."

Barb DiTirro has taught at Old Trail School for more than 24 years.

Mrs. DiTirro’s teaching approach is centered on understanding and responding to the individual needs of her students. She is known for creating a nurturing and stimulating classroom environment that encourages young learners to thrive academically and personally. Her dedication extends beyond the classroom, as she frequently engages with parents and guardians to ensure a holistic approach to each child’s education.

The Catherine Silver McNamara Award is given annually to an Old Trail faculty member in recognition of outstanding service to student achievement. It is one of the highest honors at the school, reflecting the recipient’s exceptional commitment to education and the positive impact they have had on their students. The award is particularly meaningful because nominations come from the OTS community, including students, parents, and colleagues. This peer recognition highlights the profound respect and appreciation that Mrs. DiTirro has earned over her many years at OTS.
