For almost three decades, Mr. Teunissen has been a cornerstone of the Old Trail School's athletics program, leaving an indelible mark on both the institution and its students. Described by colleagues as the embodiment of Old Trail, his impact extends far beyond the realms of sports education.

Mr. Teunissen's journey into PE began with the inspiration drawn from his own seventh grade teacher in The Netherlands. Instilled by his mentor, his passion for physical education led him to pursue a career that would mirror the dynamic and engaging teaching style he experienced growing up.

“As a teacher, I enjoy teaching a lot of different activities. I can teach swimming, table tennis, fencing, tag games and basketball one day, and teach a whole different set of activities the next day, said Mr. Teunissen. “This big variety does not only make for great PE experiences and lifetime sport options for our students, but also keeps me engaged and very eager to introduce these activities to our students.”

At Old Trail, Mr. Teunissen's teaching goes beyond conventional boundaries. He is not just an instructor; he is a constant presence throughout a students Old Trail experience—from the first splash in the pool in ECP to middle school athletics.

“The variety of athletics the students who are exposed to here is unlike any other school,” a fellow OTS teacher said. “I am so envious of the students here and what they get to experience throughout Primary, Intermediate and Middle School.”

Outside of school, Mr. Teunissen passions include an impressive 50 years of volleyball playing, a love for travel and hiking, all of which deepen the learning experiences of his students.
