Equestrian Club Wraps a Memorable Season of Growth

Old Trail School’s inaugural Equestrian Club closed out a remarkable season this fall at Maple Crest Farm, where eight students in grades 3-5 discovered not only the fundamentals of English riding but also the confidence and responsibility that come with caring for horses.

For many riders, the experience began with little to no prior exposure to horses. Week by week, they developed core riding skills while also gaining hands-on knowledge about equine care. Students learned how to confidently catch and lead their horses, groom them and understand their daily needs. Along the way, special guests enriched the program. A farrier visited to explain hoof health and show students the anatomy inside a horse’s hoof, and a veterinarian demonstrated how to take a horse’s temperature and discussed the basics of keeping horses healthy. At one session, the riders even asked to learn about barn chores and eagerly worked together to muck a few stalls.

Coach Stacy Geire says she could not have been more proud of the group’s dedication as learners or of the respect and care they showed throughout the season. “They listened so well and grew so much,” she shared.

The season concluded with a final performance for families, giving riders the chance to showcase their growing independence and riding skills. Smiles filled the arena as students demonstrated how far they had come since their first day at the farm.

This positive experience has inspired plans for a second session of the Equestrian Club, set to begin at the end of February.
