Old Trail School Receives Community Service Award

Old Trail School Receives Community Service Award

We are thrilled to share that Old Trail School has been awarded the 2023 Volunteer Group of the Year by the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank!

This recognition was presented during our Mission Morning assembly, highlighting the hard work and dedication of our community. Under the leadership of Middle School Teacher & Service Learning Coordinator Mandy Reynolds, Old Trail students and staff have contributed an astounding 484 volunteer hours since January 2023—equivalent to three months of full-time work!

Our long-standing partnership with the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank is an integral part of our commitment to service. Throughout the year, students engage in hands-on projects that make a tangible difference in the fight against food insecurity. From organizing school-wide food drives to participating in monthly advisory trips to the Food Bank, our students are deeply involved in serving the local community. Much of this work is spearheaded by our Trail to Service elective, which empowers middle school students to research, plan, and implement service projects that meet critical needs in our region.

This month, our students are focusing their efforts on raising awareness and encouraging action around the issue of hunger. By leading projects that directly benefit those affected by food insecurity, they’re embodying Old Trail’s core value of service in real, impactful ways.

We couldn’t be more proud of our students for using their time and talents to uplift our community and help those in need.
