Trail to Service Collects Record Number of Socks

Trail to Service Collects Record Number of Socks

Our Middle School Trail to Service elective kicked off the school year with a record-breaking community effort during its annual “Socktober” initiative. Throughout the month of October, Middle School students led a schoolwide sock drive to support individuals in need—collecting an incredible 1,161 pairs of socks, the largest total in the program’s history.

All donated socks will benefit the residents of Haven of Rest Ministries, a longtime Akron organization dedicated to serving people experiencing homelessness. As Trail to Service member Dorothy '26 shared during a recent community assembly, “Haven of Rest makes a huge difference in our community. It has provided over 135,000 meals, 51,000 nights of shelter, and 12,000 Christmas meals this year alone. They’ve been helping the homeless of Akron for 81 years.”

Trail to Service is a student-directed elective where students will work as a team to research, plan and implement service projects. Students serve by using their time, talent and effort to help support and plan school-wide or student-initiated projects that benefit our community.

Last week, our Trail to Service students visited Haven of Rest to personally deliver the donations and learn more about how the organization impacts the region. Thank you to all who participated in this year's Socktober sock drive!
