Beyond the Classroom

We give our all for their all.

Old Trail’s comprehensive view of each child leads to an education that fosters healthy social-emotional and physical development, creativity and kindness. Motivated teachers, accomplished musicians and artists, coaches who reinforce teamwork and wellness, a comprehensive support staff—all give their all for students. Our priority and point of pride has always been guiding each child’s growth in all areas.

We know that a child’s happiness directly correlates with their academic achievement. Our positive and inclusive community welcomes children of all backgrounds and provides an array of opportunities that develop healthy, well-rounded individuals.

  • Daily physical education and interscholastic athletics designed to give students a team experience and provide a model of fitness
  • Performing and visual arts classes for all children in all grades
  • Service-learning opportunities that support organizations like local food banks and the Akron Children’s Hospital while instilling compassion, empathy, and leadership
  • Healthy lunch options served daily in the cafeteria, often sourced from our campus farm, because children perform better when they are fueled by nutritious foods
  • Support services from an experienced and robust staff of professionals, including learning specialists, school psychologists, a speech and language pathologist and school nurse

Old Trail is fully equipped to foster your child’s social and emotional wellness, which is ever more important amid the dramatic changes we’ve all recently faced.

We surround students with resources that deepen the learning experience.

At Old Trail, we see more opportunities to learn in every space and every moment. As the nation’s only independent school located in a national park, Old Trail and its community have daily access to abundant resources, unparalleled experiences and a beautiful setting to call home. Students craft science poems about the natural world, connect their study of Native Americans to the fall harvest on our campus farm and test water quality in our local stream. Perhaps most importantly, they gain the advantages of being outside without sacrificing critical learning opportunities. Our location not only distinguishes Old Trail, but also serves as our community’s constant reminder of the growth that happens here, inside and out.
