The Arts

The arts are taught in every grade, inspiring every child’s creativity. Students in younger grades participate in weekly claasses where they sing, play instruments and explore artistic techniques. Intermediate and Middle School students can choose music electives or perform in the band, orchestra and chorus. Electives include digital composition, stagecraft and musical production.

Visual Arts

Through structured coursework that includes knowledge of artists, art principles and guided critique, students learn about cultures around the world. The use and application of skills, processes and media encourage self-expression and creative growth and results in knowledge, aesthetic judgments, skills and abilities.

Our program provides a variety of media, techniques and processes in both 2D and 3D which are developmentally appropriate in an environment that supports and encourages critical thinking, problem-solving and risk-taking. We encourage students to realize the joy of self-expression as they learn to interpret, respond to and appreciate the visual arts within the school and in relation to history and culture.

Music

In the younger grades, small classes meet two to three times weekly to allow each child to sing, play instruments or perform. The curriculum offers strong integration of multi-cultural influences with an emphasis on music literacy.

Intermediate and Middle School students select from a wide variety of music electives and have performance opportunities throughout the year in band, orchestra and chorus. Classes include digital composition, stagecraft, musical production and more.

Theater

All students take field trips to see professional performances and private lessons are also available after school for interested students.

Middle School drama electives teach the fundamentals of acting such as following stage directions, interpreting and creating characters, and memorizing lines. The most important lessons taught in the class are life skills including effective communication, risk taking, and mental preparation/focus.
