Ohio Tax Credit Program
Did you know you can support Old Trail School students with a gift that won’t cost you anything out of pocket, thanks to the Ohio Tax Credit Program?
It might sound too good to be true, but it’s real! Old Trail School participates in a program that allows Ohio taxpayers to make a meaningful impact by contributing to the Ohio Association of Independent Schools (OAIS), recognized by the state as a Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO). These contributions are directed toward providing need-based financial aid for deserving Old Trail students, ensuring more children can experience the transformative education our school offers.
Here’s the bottom line: Ohio taxpayers can receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for contributions of up to $750 for individuals or up to $1,500 for couples filing jointly.
How Does It Work?
How Do I Participate?
Tap the "Make a Scholarship Gift" button below to visit the Ohio Association of Independent Schools (OAIS) website. Create a profile and select "Old Trail School – Bath" from the drop-down menu. When you file your taxes this spring, you will get a tax credit of up to $750 for an individual or $1,500 from a couple filing jointly. If you are filing jointly, be sure to have each spouse make a separate $750 gift to the SGO to ensure you receive the maximum credit.
The OAIS SGO will send you a gift receipt that you must include with your tax return when filing. Please note the important deadlines listed below. Each donor is responsible for determining when they want to claim their Ohio tax credit and should consult a tax professional, as necessary.
- IF PAYING BY CHECK OR DEBIT CARD: Checks must be received by April 3 to be applied to your Ohio tax return for the current year or immediate past year. Checks should be made payable to OAIS SGO and mailed to OAIS SGO, P.O. Box 492, Granville, OH 43023.
- IF PAYING BY CREDIT CARD: Donations received by April 15 may be included as a tax credit eligible donation when you file your current year's tax return. Amounts received after that date will apply to next year's tax return.
An OAIS SGO contribution is a redirection of your tax dollars, which is different from a philanthropic gift. Simply put, you can choose to pay the State of Ohio or direct those same dollars to Old Trail scholarships. We hope that members of our Old Trail community choose to contribute to the OAIS SGO in addition to their regular philanthropic gifts to Old Trail, which are essential. A contribution to the OAIS SGO is not credited as a philanthropic donation to Old Trail School.
