OTS Profiles: Michael McGrievy

Don't be fooled by the stoic look – Grade 5 teacher Michael McGrievy is a compassionate and skilled educator who is thrilled to be at OTS!
Continuing our series of getting to know new faculty and staff, and individuals in new roles, Mr. McGrievy doesn't exactly fit into either category. Although he is certainly no stranger to Old Trail and its community, it's also his first year as a full-time instructor.

"This is my 11th year at Old Trail, but all of my prior experience here has been in a part-time capacity," he said. "Prior to that, I taught middle school and high school math in California for five years, and high school math in Botswana with the Peace Corps. I'm excited to be working again full-time because I really missed being part of the school community."

Mr. McGrievy, who is a math teacher at OTS, has an undergraduate degree in math from Miami University and a master's degree in statistics from the University of Akron.

"I love teaching math because I have learned that there are many different ways for students to understand concepts," Mr. McGrievy said. "It's always interesting for me to hear students explain how they 'get it.'"

He added that the small class sizes at Old Trail allow him to more easily differentiate his instruction and devote more of his attention to struggling students as well as students who are ready for more of a challenge. In his free time, Mr. McGrievy enjoys running, riding his bike (sometimes even riding it to work!), skiing and reading."My family and I have recently converted an old school bus into a camper and we like to travel around in it during the summer," he added. That's a sight we'd love to see!
Thank you for all the work you do on behalf of our students, Mr. McGrievy!
