More Than 500 Pounds of Produce Donated to Food Pantry
Thanks to the efforts of new Countryside Food and Farms Farm Manager Ginentte Simko and her intern from the University of Akron, we were able to donate 521 pounds of fresh produce to the First Congregational Church of Akron to help those in need.
In a letter addressed to the school: "On behalf of the First Congregational Church of Akron and our Feeding Hope Food Pantry, I would like to express our thanks and deep gratitude for your support this year. During these uncertain times, and with the added stress of COVID-19, the families that seek out our pantry are in need now more than ever. Your produce additions played an important role in providing these families fresh food to supplement their meals."
The surplus of produce occurred after the pandemic forced the school to close its doors last March. It was decided then that the harvest, which would typically be used to help feed our students, staff and OTS summer campers, would instead be donated until we returned to campus. We are proud of our partnership with Countryside and for the opportunity to serve the larger Akron community!
